I spent the first six months of the quest traveling through states surrounding the home base in the Northeast, Mid Atlantic, Southeast and the Midwest. Experiencing many wonderful breweries in 19 states, I realized it was time to take the quest to the next level. American Author, Horace Greeley, advised Vermont native, Josiah Grinnell, to "Go West Young Man, Go West." Grinnell took the advice in 1833, headed west and founded the city of Grinnell, Iowa and became a U.S. Congressman. You can verify this story by reading a historical marker, located at the Iowa, I-80 westbound rest area, mile marker 180. In the spirit of Horace's famous quote, I decided to take the quest west. OK, I did not incorporate the city of Barger and No, I did not run for public office. However, I did drive 6,702 miles over a three week period, adding 11 states ( bringing the total state visits to 30, meeting the quest rule requirement) while visiting 71 breweries and enjoying many fine regional brews . I also experienced the sites of a beautiful country that you never see when you're flying at 35,000 feet. I would highly recommend adding a drive across the United States to your bucket list, it is an experience you will not regret. Ok back the Quest..........this three week venture to the Left Coast was so jam packed, I thought it would be best to break the trip into a few blogs instead of one long blog. So buckle up, put on the sun glasses and please do not ask " are we there yet" and yes we will make a few pit stops.
