The end is near, the time is now.............31 days remain to visit 35 breweries to reach the goal of 300 and bring the quest to a close. Time to put the petal to the metal and get the quest back on track. So as we enter March like a lamb we will need to finish like a Lion. March Madness is here and I'm not talking round ball, my March Madness is a beer mug. Time to hit the road and we will be hitting the road.
- Flying Dog- located in Frederick, MD, this brewery is growing and expanding its distribution. The founder of the Brewery was an Adventurer and decided to climb K-2 in Pakistan, the 2nd highest mountain in the world. With little Climbing experience he and his friends were successful and found a hotel that served alcohol in the Muslim country of Pakistan. Whether it was the altitude or the alcohol, the group became entranced with a large painting of a dog that appeared to be flying, thus we have flying dog. Now the brewery artwork developed by artist Ralph Steadman does not resemble the painting in Pakistan, well maybe it was the altitude & alcohol. THe beer is great and with names like raging bitch you can not go wrong and the fresh raging bitch sampled during the tour was excellent. I also enjoyed the Barrel aged Gonzo, Pearl Necklace on Nitro and the Mexican Hot Chocolate.
- Tin Cannon Brewery- located in the Manassas area of Virginia this small brewery is paying tribute to area that was impacted by the civil war. Located close to the battles of Bull Run, they noticed that civil war area cannons were in numerous areas memorializing the historic battles. So the named the brewery with a combination of a cannon and a tin can, thus you have Tin Cannon Brewery. They are brewing some interesting small batch brews I enjoyed the Virginia Blonde and their Black IPA Busted Pipe. THe Brewer and Part Owner's Daughter served our beer and provided the history of the Brewery. Her Dad was brewery and out obtaining some ingredients for the brew and I just missed him. This is a an upstart brewery putting out some interesting brews. So if you need a break from your battlefield tours, be sure to stop in.
- Bad Wolf Brewing- started the beer revo Manassas , Virginia. and was the first brewery in the area. They currently have a 1 bbl system with a small tasting area. The bar counter top displays a variety beer bottle caps. They are expanding to another location with a 10 bbl system and use the current location for their experimental brews. I enjoyed their Pirtuk a double IPA and Chimera IPA. I'm not a big fan of Wild Ales, however, their Zythos Super Smash was very enjoyable. A very friendly atmosphere and well worth your time to stop in for a pint or two.
