OK...I know Beer Festivals do not count towards the Quest. However, the Savor Craft Beer Event is worthy of everyone's bucket list to attend at least once. Jeff, Kirsten, 5 of his friends and I attended the Savor Event May 9th, at the Building Museum in Washington DC. Seventy Five Breweries serve two of their beers along with food paired with each beer. It was a great opportunity to meet the Brewers, enjoy and discuss their beers. Plus it gave me good connections for future Brewery Quest visits.
That is enough talk about Savor. While in Northern Virginia, Jeff decided to help me with the quest and he took me around to 6 breweries in the area. Loudoun County Virginia has quite a wine trail, however, the craft beer movement is alive and growing among the wineries. So you grape-lovers beware, the hop-heads are moving in.
It was a good start for MAY, Looking forward to where the Beer Trail next takes

- Sweetwater Tavern in Sterling, one of three locations in Virginia. They brew close to 30 variety of beer styles, but only have 5 available at a time. Their award winning Great American Pale Ale is a must. I also enjoyed the Last chance Lager and the Straight Shooter Stout. Enjoy a meal with the beer, they have a great food menu.
- Adroit Theory Brewing located in Purcellville, do not let the funky themed beer names and labels steer you away from this place. They are a nano-brewery making estoteric beer with a focus on barrell aging. They usually have 6 to 8 brews on tap. My favorite was the Black As Your Soul bourboun bbl aged stout, followed by two imperial IPA's, God is an American and Scorpion. They have some great releases planned, so check in on their website now and then.
- Corcoran located down the street from Adroit Theory, just opened this new location ( moved away from their winery) a few months ago. Very nice tasting area with a nice size bar and numerous small tables. They had 8 brews on tap. My favorites were Mosby's Raiders Imperial IPA, John Champs Barleywine and Slainte Stout.
- Crooked Run Brewing located beside my favorite restaurant in Leesburg, Tuscarora Mills. Crooked Run is a very new small nano-brewery. The tasting area is small and still a work in progress. However, this is a must stop if you are in Leesburg. Sean was the server and very knowledgible of the four beers that were on tap. My two favorites were the Bad Boy Black ESB and the Shadow of the Truth Black Belgian Tripel. When I'm in Leesburg I will be stopping by to sample their latest brews.
